In pre-perestroika years the lake enjoyed good fame. From it, the valuable therapeutic mud was extracted. With the advent of market relations, the environment issues were neglected. Profit at any cost was at the forefront. The lands around the lake were distributed for the construction of private houses. A wide river of sewerage flowed into the lake. The healing glory of the lake was safely buried under a layer of mud from the drains.
In 2016, the local authorities initiated the work to clean the coastal area and the lake from debris and silt. The funds are not enough and the work progress is slow. The end of all rehabilitation works are scheduled for 2018.
In the water protection zone of the lake, the park will be constructed. If mud passes bacteriological research successfully, it will be used for medicinal purposes.
